North Georgia is filled with opportunities to enjoy nature. And what could possibly be better than an exciting day of whitewater rafting followed by a relaxing evening in your luxurious cabin at Enchanted Mountain Retreats? Our cabin rentals in Blue Ridge, Georgia are less than an hour’s drive from some of the finest whitewater rafting in the country.

Experience the Ocoee rush

Ocoee River RaftingThe Ocoee River, with its headwaters located just 30 minutes from Blairsville and your cabin, gained international attention when it was chosen as the whitewater rafting venue for the 1996 Olympics. Since then it has become a popular destination for experienced thrill seekers and novices alike.

Your whitewater adventure begins with a pleasant float down the river. Switching to a raft, your adrenaline pumps as you experience the challenge of half-day or full-day rafting down the wild Ocoee. For the experienced daredevils among you, the Ocoee provides Class III and Class IV rapids.

Enjoy the spectacular scenery

Your roller coaster river ride will take you right through some of the most beautiful terrain in the Cherokee National Forest. The Ocoee flows through an incredible river gorge, and if you dare take your eyes away from the rapids ahead, you’ll see a wide array of plants and wildlife.

Great blue herons are a common sight along the river, as are turkey vultures, hawks, and eagles. A lucky few may even catch a glimpse of one of Cherokee’s 1,500 black bears.

Adventures from mild to wild

Don’t be deterred if you are new to rafting. Georgia whitewater rafting is easily accessible even for novices. Local rafting companies maintain strict safety standards and have outstanding safety records.

Just outside of Blue Ridge, GA, you’ll find Ocoee Rafting & Wildwater, Ltd., and in McCaysville, GA, there’s Rolling Thunder River Company. All of which provide experienced guides to assist you, even if you’ve never rafted before.

A couple of special notes for first-timers: state law requires that all rafters be at least 12 years old. For rafting in the summer, just a bathing suit and a pair of easy-dry shorts are sufficient clothes. In cooler weather, synthetic fabrics are highly recommended – no jeans or cotton clothing! Footwear should fasten securely to your feet. Old tennis shoes or strapped sandals are fine.

For a vacation that combines relaxation and excitement in one of America’s most beautiful locations, look no further than Enchanted Mountain Retreats‘ fabulous Georgia mountain rentals! We’ll have the hot tub waiting for you at the end of your Ocoee River rafting adventure.
